Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

What services does Tymly provide?

We provide focused mental health evaluations for individuals seeking workplace leave, disability documentation, workplace accommodations, and return-to-work support.

Documentation is completed only when clinically appropriate and supported by the provider’s independent clinical judgment.

Who is eligible for an evaluation?

We serve adults seeking an evaluation related to their own mental health condition and its impact on their ability to work.

Eligibility may depend on your location, the type of documentation you need, and whether your needs fall within the scope of our services.

Do I need an existing mental health diagnosis?

No. You do not need an existing diagnosis to schedule an evaluation. Your provider will assess your symptoms, relevant history, current functioning, and how your mental health may be affecting your ability to work.

Do I need to be seeing a therapist or psychiatrist?

No. You do not need to be actively receiving mental health treatment to schedule an evaluation.

If you are currently receiving care, relevant records may provide helpful clinical context. Your provider may also recommend establishing or continuing treatment when clinically appropriate.

Are there situations where Tymly may not be the right fit?

Yes. We specialize in focused mental health evaluations rather than emergency or ongoing psychiatric treatment.

We may not be appropriate for individuals experiencing an immediate mental health crisis, active psychosis, acute mania, or other conditions that require emergency care, ongoing specialty psychiatric treatment, or a higher level of car

My therapist or psychiatrist does not complete disability paperwork. Can Tymly help?

Possibly. Many treating providers do not complete workplace leave or disability forms.

We can provide an independent evaluation of your current mental health symptoms, functioning, and work-related limitations to determine whether requested documentation is clinically appropriate.

We do not replace your treating therapist, psychiatrist, or other ongoing healthcare provider.

What states do you serve?

We currently provide individual evaluation services in select states where our clinicians are appropriately licensed.

Your location is confirmed during the eligibility process before scheduling.

Your Evaluation

What type of providers complete Tymly evaluations?

Evaluations are completed by appropriately licensed mental health professionals, which may include Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) and psychologists.

Our providers evaluate mental health symptoms, functioning, and how a condition may affect an individual’s ability to work.

What mental health concerns do you evaluate?

We commonly evaluate concerns such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • ADHD
  • Mood Disorders
  • Burnout and stress-related concerns
  • Trauma-related symptoms
  • Adjustment-related conditions
  • Postpartum mental health concerns
  • Other mental health conditions affecting workplace functioning

Our evaluations focus not only on symptoms or diagnosis, but also on how those symptoms affect your ability to perform your job.

How long are Tymly appointments?

Initial evaluations are approximately 40 minutes.

Follow-up evaluations are approximately 20 minutes and focus on changes in symptoms, functioning, treatment progress, and work status.

Appointment length may vary depending on individual clinical needs.

Do I need to upload medical records?

Not always. If you have relevant records from a therapist, psychiatrist, primary care provider, previous evaluator, or other healthcare professional, you may be asked to provide them.

Records can provide valuable clinical context but are not required in every case.

How does the process work?
  1. Complete our brief eligibility screening.
  2. Schedule your virtual evaluation.
  3. Complete your intake forms and provide any requested information.
  4. Meet with an appropriately licensed mental health provider.
  5. If documentation is clinically appropriate, your provider completes the applicable documentation.
  6. Follow-up evaluations are completed when reassessment or updated documentation is needed.

Does Tymly provide therapy or medication management?

No. We specialize in focused mental health evaluations.

We do not provide ongoing psychotherapy, counseling, medication prescribing, or routine medication management.

Will Tymly become my ongoing mental health provider?

No. Tymly is an evaluation-focused service and does not replace an ongoing therapist, psychiatrist, primary care provider, or other treating clinician.

If ongoing treatment is recommended, we encourage you to establish or continue care with an appropriate healthcare professional.

Leave & Disability Documentation

What forms can Tymly complete?

When clinically appropriate and within the provider’s scope, we assist with documentation such as:

  • FMLA forms
  • Short-term disability forms
  • Employer leave documentation
  • Workplace accommodation forms
  • Return-to-work documentation
  • Other work-related mental health documentation

Requirements vary by employer, insurer, program, and jurisdiction.

Does Tymly guarantee approval for disability or leave?

No.

Completing an evaluation does not guarantee that leave, disability benefits, accommodations, or another request will be approved.

Our providers make independent clinical recommendations. Final approval decisions are made by the applicable employer, insurer, benefits administrator, government program, or other third party.

Should I speak with my employer before scheduling?

When possible, yes. We recommend contacting your employer or Human Resources department to determine what type of leave or accommodation you are requesting and whether specific forms are required.

Having the correct forms available before your evaluation can help prevent unnecessary delays.

Will Tymly backdate disability or leave documentation?

We generally recommend leave or disability beginning on or after the date of your clinical evaluation.

Backdated certification is not guaranteed and depends on the clinical information available, applicable program requirements, and the evaluating provider’s independent judgment.

If you need documentation for a period before your evaluation, records from a provider who was treating you during that period may be particularly important.

Can Tymly complete leave documentation so I can care for a family member?

No. Our evaluations are for individuals seeking leave or disability documentation related to their own mental health condition.

If you need leave to care for a family member, the required certification generally needs to come from the healthcare provider treating that family member.

Extensions & Follow-Up Care

Do I need another appointment for an extension or recertification?

Yes. A follow-up evaluation is required when you are requesting an extension, recertification, updated documentation for a new certification period, or a change in work status.

This allows your provider to make recommendations based on your current symptoms and functioning.

Can Tymly help if I’m already on leave and need an extension?

Yes. We can evaluate individuals who are already on leave and need reassessment or updated documentation. Your provider may review previous leave documentation, treatment records, current symptoms, functioning, and treatment progress.

An evaluation does not guarantee that continued leave or an extension will be recommended.

How often are follow-up appointments required?

Follow-up evaluations are generally required when updated clinical documentation is needed. For ongoing leave or disability certification, reassessment may occur approximately every 30 days, depending on the circumstances and applicable requirements.

A follow-up may also be required sooner if your work status changes.

Why does Tymly require follow-up evaluations?

Mental health symptoms and work functioning can change over time.

Follow-up evaluations allow your provider to reassess your current symptoms, functional limitations, treatment progress, and readiness to return to work.

Continued certification cannot be based solely on your initial evaluation.

How long will Tymly certify short-term disability?

Certification periods are individualized.

When clinically appropriate, providers may recommend a relatively short initial period of leave followed by reassessment rather than automatically recommending extended time away from work.

Any extension is based on your current symptoms, functional impairment, treatment progress, applicable requirements, and the provider’s independent clinical judgment.

A specific duration is never guaranteed.

Do you provide long-term disability evaluations?

Our consumer services primarily focus on workplace leave and short-term disability-related needs.

Requests involving long-term disability may require a more extensive evaluation, longitudinal treatment records, or a different type of independent assessment. We recommend contacting us before scheduling if you are seeking long-term disability documentation.

Fees & Insurance

How much does it cost?

View our current Fee Schedule for appointment fees and payment details.

When will I be charged for my appointment?

Your appointment fee is automatically charged 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Payment must be completed before your evaluation begins.

Do you offer refunds?

Fees are charged for professional healthcare services provided by your clinician. Once an evaluation, clinical review, or other professional service has been completed, the fee is non-refundable.

Cancellations and rescheduling are handled according to our Cancellation & No-Show Policy.

Do you accept insurance?

We are a private-pay service and do not bill insurance directly. Upon request, we may provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-net work reimbursement.

Reimbursement depends on your individual insurance plan and is not guaranteed.

Is paperwork included with my evaluation?

Yes. Applicable documentation associated with the certification period being evaluated is included in your appointment fee when clinically appropriate.

If you later need an extension, recertification, updated forms, or return-to-work documentation for a different period or work status update, a follow-up evaluation is required.

Timing & Documentation

How long does the evaluation process take?

Your initial virtual evaluation is approximately 40 minutes.

The overall process also includes completion of intake forms, review of relevant information, and any documentation required after the appointment.

How quickly is documentation completed?

When documentation is clinically appropriate and we have received all required information, we complete it within 24 hours of the evaluation.

What happens if additional information is needed?

If your provider needs additional records, clarification, forms, or other clinical information before making a determination, documentation may take longer.

We will let you know if additional information is required.

When will my paperwork be available?

Completed documentation is generally made available through your secure patient portal after it has been reviewed and finalized.

If another delivery method is required, we will follow the applicable authorization and secure communication process.

Where should I upload documents, records, or forms for my provider?

Please upload any requested forms, medical records, or supporting documents directly through your secure patient portal.

Uploading documents through the portal helps ensure your provider can review them before your evaluation and keeps your information protected.

Privacy & Security

Is my information confidential?

Yes.

We use secure, HIPAA-compliant technology to help protect your personal health information.

Your evaluation, records, and documentation are handled according to applicable privacy laws and professional standards.

How will I receive my documents?

Completed documents are generally provided through your secure patient portal.

This allows you to access your documentation without relying on standard, unsecured communication methods.

Will my employer receive my medical records?

Not automatically.

Your clinical record is separate from the documentation prepared for your employer, insurer, or other third party.

We generally disclose information only with your authorization or when disclosure is otherwise permitted or required by law. Documentation provided to a third party is limited to information appropriate for the request and applicable requirements.
